What Exactly Is Unified Communications as a Service?

February 21, 2020by Sharan Sifat

Unified communications (UCaaS) are the convergence of team networking, video conferencing, and cloud phones, all bundled into a single platform. It helps colleagues connect using all of those networks from anywhere, wherever, and on any computer. UCaaS provides standard features such as presence status (available, busy, invisible, do not disturb), chat history, file sharing, teams, classes, and integrations with third-party applications like Salesforce, Microsoft 365, and Google Workspace.

“As a service” defines the cloud distribution paradigm. Working in the cloud ensures a team member can access any post, file, connection, and third-party service wherever they have a connected computer. In the cloud, files won’t get misplaced if a machine restarts, and teams can simultaneously update records in real-time, arrange sessions with others in the enterprise, and talk with colleagues worldwide.

Many companies have hastily implemented collaborative work strategies, such as team texting, video conferencing, and cloud phone software, in a hurried attempt to find fast alternatives. However, as independent applications, they implemented these solutions, applying unnecessary steps to a digital workflow to make communicating simpler.

UCaaS streamlines communication

UCaaS is designed to mitigate the frustration resulting from switching to complete a task between applications. Team member A can send a message to Employee B using a website such as RingCentral, which can open the file, edit the file, and initiate a video chat from the same program. Unifying these digital communication resources saves time, limits disruptions, encourages effectiveness and aligns with most companies’ long-term IT priorities. The new workplace is increasingly digital, and in the post-COVID-19 workplace, it will be more global. And when state-mandated stay-at-home orders are abolished, many companies keep their workers remote for the near future. Your company is expected to connect in various ways: conference calls, video conferencing, text messages, email, SMS, the fax-the list goes on and on.
