It was time for several top leagues in Europe to light up once more.
From the Premier League to the Bundesliga, all the way down to the Italian Serie A and the Spanish La Liga, teams went head-to-head for the ultimate three points or one point apiece depending on how fierce.
In the Premier League, the biggest battle last weekend was between the Manchester clubs.
It was time again for the Manchester Derby, as Pep Guardiola and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had good streaks to protect. The match ended two-nil in four of Manchester United, with a penalty from Bruno Fernandes and a Luke Shaw’s goal.
The loss ended Manchester City’s unbeaten run that stretched back to 28 matches. It was also the first time that City failed to score in 22 consecutive games.
Arsenal failed to capitalize on a bright start in their match against Burnley, as they could only secure one point. In a game filled with controversial calls and errors, the Gunners will see this as two points lost rather than one point gained.
While Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal’s North London rivals, put four past Crystal Palace in a London derby.
Liverpool continued their poor run at home, as they lost a sixth consecutive home game against lowly-placed Fulham. Lemina scored the only goal of the match through a Mo Salah error.
In Spain, the ultimate battle was between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. Atletico went into this Madrid derby with a five-point lead at the top of the table.
The match ended 1-1, as Atletico Madrid saw their point gap cut to three points ahead of second-placed Barcelona. Barcelona capitalized on the tie between the Madrid teams as they won two-nil away at Osasuna.
The Bundesliga saw the two biggest teams in Germany, as Bayern Munich welcomed Borussia Dortmund to the Allianz Arena. It was always going to be a battle between two goal machines in Haaland and Lewandowski.
The former wasted no time showing that he is the real deal with his first goal of only 80 seconds into the match. He soon added a second to give Dortmund a two-nil lead. However, Lewandowski would not allow Haaland to steal the show, as he levelled the score before halftime with his own brace.
With both strikers on two goals, Lewandowski completed his hat trick in the second half.
Bayern Munich completed the comeback to win 4-2.
RB Leipzig kept the pressure up on Bayern Munich with a three-nil win away at Freiburg. Bayern Munich maintains a two-point lead at the top after last weekend’s round of fixtures.
In Serie A, Juventus defeated Lazio 3-1 to keep Scudettos hopes alive. They are now seven points behind Inter Milan, who occupy the first position. AC Milan won two-nil away at Hellas Verona to move within three points of Inter Milan. Although Inter has a game advantage at the time of writing.
